How to measure diamond quality using the 4Cs
Diamond quality is assessed using a system devised by the Gemological Institute of America called the 4Cs. The 4Cs are Colour, Clarity, Cut and Carat (weight). Most of our diamond jewellery will carry a diamond certificate that shows the grading quality according to the 4Cs for the central diamond in the piece.
When buying diamond jewellery, most people need to make a compromise between price and quality with the goal of purchasing a diamond that, in normal conditions, without magnification, looks clear, has no visible flaws, is well cut (symmetrical in appearance without missing or extra facets and even girdles – where appropriate) and meets the buyer's taste in terms of the diamond's carat weight.
For most buyers, a well-chosen G/SI central diamond is the optimal compromise between absolute quality and price. We aim to use 'eye clean' central diamonds in all our jewellery, so you do not even need to worry about buying a diamond that will disappoint when delivered to you.
