Diamond Engagement Rings
Engagement rings can be found in a multitude of styles with several types of precious metal and a wide array of precious stones. Most people prefer diamonds for their engagement rings, although these days, it is becoming popular to have diamonds in combination with other gems such as sapphires for a striking combination.
The average weight of the central diamond in most engagement rings is about 1.3 carats in the UK. A 2ct diamond engagement ring would be considered large by most people.
The most popular, by far, diamond shape used in diamond engagement rings is the round brilliant cut. This is the classic diamond shape and has the greatest degree of sparkle and fire due to the many facets and how light reflects inside the diamond before exiting at the top of the gem.
If you want to make a show with a diamond that looks larger than its price might suggest, then look at the emerald cut, oval, or marquise shapes. These do not have quite the sparkle of a brilliant round diamond, although a well-cut oval or marquise can look almost as bright.
